The McLaren 570S GT4 has scored its first win of the season in the opening round of the 2017 British GT Championship at Oulton Park, UK. Customer team track-club, with drivers Adam Balon and Adam MacKay, took overall GT4 victory during the first of two races over the Bank Holiday weekend, as all six examples of the latest GT racing model from McLaren showed pace and reliability.

On the eve of the opening British GT Championship round at Oulton Park, McLaren Automotive has confirmed the extension of the official Safety Car partnership with the SRO-managed series. Throughout the season, a variety of models from the McLaren Sports Series will manage on-track safety and coordination of the bumper grid of GT cars, which will include six examples of the 570S GT4. The debut outing for the 2017 season will see the 540C Coupé lead the grid.

Alvaro Parente, a 32-year-old driver from Porto, Portugal driving his No. 9 K-PAX Racing McLaren 650S, held off a turn one challenge by local star Patrick Long of Manhattan Beach, Calif., driving the No. 58 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3-R and extended his winning margin at the checkered flag to 2.86 seconds in a wild event that saw flooding between turns eight and nine due to a fire hydrant incident from off track on Ocean Blvd.. McLaren Factory Driver Alvaro Parente continued his strong start to the 2017 Pirelli World Challenge season on the streets of Long Beach California, breaking the lap record to score pole position, before claiming a lights-to-flag victory. Close behind the reigning champion, K-PAX Racing’s Bryan Sellers teammate secured the final podium position in the #6 650S GT3.

Factory Driver Alvaro Parente kicked off his Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) title defense in the best possible fashion at the opening round of the season on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida over the weekend. The Portuguese driver took victory in the opening race of the 2017 campaign, and narrowly missed a podium, finishing P4 in Race 2 for customer team K-PAX Racing in the #9 McLaren 650S GT3.

McLaren has confirmed British drivers Jonny Kane and Dean Stoneman as additions to its Factory Driver roster for 2017, which has grown to five drivers as the season plans have been finalized. The growth in its elite driver stable showcases an increasing commitment to the top levels of customer GT racing around the world as the 650S GT3 enters its third season of competition.

Following the completion of the successful development season for the 570S GT4, the latest GT model from McLaren will return to the British GT Championship for 2017.  Strengthening the McLaren presence on the grid will be McLaren Automotive Test Driver Gareth Howell who joins customer team In2Racing, driving one of the team’s two-car assault on the GT4 championship.
