McLaren Heads Down Under to Defend Bathurst Crown as Ben Barnicoat Joins Gt Driver Academy

The McLaren 650S GT3 will return to Mount Panorama circuit in Australia next month with four customer team-run entries confirmed for the 2017 Bathurst 12 Hour. The race will also mark the competitive debut outing of Ben Barnicoat who joins the McLaren GT Driver Academy for 2017.

Factory Driver Alvaro Parente will return to racing in the USA during 2017 to defend the Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) title with customer team K-PAX Racing. Parente will be part of a three-car assault on the championship with the McLaren 650S GT3.

Factory Drivers Rob Bell, Côme Ledogar and Shane van Gisbergen secured the prestigious Blancpain Endurance Cup Drivers Championship and customer team Garage 59 won the Blancpain GT Endurance Cup Teams Championship at the Nürburgring in one of the most successful weekends for McLaren in GT3 racing.

Ahead of the 2016 Total 24 Hours of Spa, it has been confirmed that one of the three examples of the McLaren 650S GT3 being run by customer team Garage 59 will wear a unique livery based on the original logo which adorned the early racers of the Bruce McLaren Motor Racing team. The logo featured on McLaren cars between 1962 and 1966.

The McLaren 650S GT3 secured further silverware this weekend as McLaren GT Factory Drivers Rob Bell and Alvaro Parente enjoyed a strong weekend at the Nürburgring round of the Blancpain Sprint Series. The duo claimed pole position, a podium finish and the Main Race victory – the first for the McLaren 650S GT3 in the 2016 Sprint Cup. This result extends Bell’s lead at the top of the Blancpain GT Drivers Championship to 44 points.

Victory for the McLaren 650S GT3 at the Paul Ricard 1000km sees McLaren GT Factory Driver Rob Bell lead the overall Blancpain GT Drivers Championship by 20 points. The race was won in dramatic fashion with Bell and fellow Factory Drivers Shane Van Gisbergen and Côme Ledogar taking the chequered flag after six hours with a 3.7s winning margin.
