McLaren Automotive Expands Customer-Focused Motorsport McLaren 720S GT3 Offering

McLaren Automotive, the British creator of luxury sports cars and supercars, is to expand its race-winning activities in GT racing with a number of new initiatives. Headlining these is the announcement that a new 720S GT3 race car will join the successful 570S GT4, and this new model will begin testing next year for launch with customer teams in 2019.

Adding to the list of race wins and podiums already secured in the first year racing with customer teams around the world, the McLaren 570S GT4 has now achieved multiple championship success over the past two weekends. Customer teams contesting the Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) GTS series, GT4 European Series Northern Cup, Swedish GT Championship and the British GT Championship have taken debut titles for the McLaren Sports Series model.

At about 4,500-feet elevation, K-PAX Racing moved mountains in Rounds 7 & 8 of Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) SprintX competition at Utah Motorsports Campus. Both K-PAX Racing McLaren 650S GT3 cars finished inside the top-10 in each race, but it was the No. 9 of Alvaro Parente and Ben Barnicoat in the finale that made the biggest impact in the team’s pursuit toward an overall championship title.

K-PAX Racing will return to Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) SprintX action August 11-13 at Utah Motorsports Campus. With five more rounds remaining in the class schedule, the team will look to build on its top-five standing in the GT-X championship with a track where it has seen success.

K-PAX Racing has announced that Michael Lewis, co-driver of the No. 98 K-PAX Racing McLaren 650S GT3 car in the Pirelli World Challenge SprintX class, will now co-drive the No. 6 K-PAX Racing McLaren 650S GT3 car with Bryan Sellers. Michael will replace fellow SprintX driver Jonny Kane for the division's final two rounds of action.

The McLaren 570S GT4 was victorious on its racing debut in Asia, with McLaren customer team, The Winning Team, scoring pole position and two wins on the opening weekend of the 2017 China GT Championship. The latest GT racing model from McLaren is based on the 570S Coupé model from the Sports Series, and continues to impress in its first season of customer team racing, having now triumphed in Europe, North America and Asia.

The 12-13 May event at Beijing Goldenport Park circuit provides an appropriate showcase for the McLaren 570S GT4, China GT having swiftly become the most influential elite racing contest in China since its launch in 2016. McLaren has been named Official Safety Car partner for China GT and will provide a 570S road car for this purpose.
